The Mighty Angel

Yesterday I saw a film that affected me emotionally.

The Mighty Angel is a Polish film directed by Wojtek Smarzowski. This is a shocking story about addiction and attempts to get out of it. It is also a story of love that saves everything. Interestingly, the script is based on Jerzy Pilch's excellent novel Pod Mocnym Aniołem.

A few words about the story.

Jerzy (Robert Więckiewicz) is a writer and alcoholic. We meet him when he starts to believed he could break the addiction. However, he does not hold on long in his decisions. He soon goes to rehab where he meets other patients. Each of them tells his story.

The film is a mix of funny and shocking stories that create the perfect balance. The story draws the viewer's eyes hypnotically. In an interesting way it presents an extremely serious and sad problem that a significant percentage of Polish society struggles with. I strongly recommend watching this film.
